When you visit Diamond Head State Monument in Honolulu, you are going to be at the site of a volcanic tuff cone. Basically, this crater was formed after an eruption years ago. Check out aerial photos of the crater and what all you can expect to see when you arrive. The area is truly gorgeous, and you are going to be enjoying some breathtaking views.

The staircase leading up to the top is said to be a little steep, but it’s not such a bad hike for most. The beautiful views bring you the ocean and the rest of Honolulu. You’re going to learn a little about the city’s history, too. To visit this attraction, you want to make your way to 18th Avenue, and get ready to take in everything that Diamond Head Crater has to offer, which is more than just the state monument and the views.

Diamond Head State MonumentThis excursion is certainly a unique experience that gives you a look at the city that you can’t get anywhere else. Make sure you bring some water along with you so that you have something to drink for this outdoor adventure. While that is a good idea, you will also find that there is a food truck there when you park and shaved ice available for sale.

It’s just suggested by other hikers to also bring some water so that you stay hydrated while you take your time making it to the top of the monument. And when you’re finished, if you want another shaved ice or a bite to eat, refreshments are available from the food truck once again.

To get to the starting point for your hike, you can take the trolley. That makes everything much easier. You only have to pay $1 to gain access to the monument. It should also be mentioned that there is a water station available, as well as restrooms, but both are located where you start your hike.

Shade trees dot the landscape near the entrance so that you can get out of the sun for a minute. You’re also going to see wildlife there, including Hawaiian mongooses. Be sure you dress comfortably, including your shoes. There are sites to check out along the way, too, during your hike.

The hike is going to take about an hour and a half round trip, 45 minutes both ways. Of course, you’re going to want to rest and relax at the top, enjoying yourself and those views. You might want to bring a camera along so that you’re able to take some great photos. The hike is worth it indeed.

You will have been to a site that is tied to the Honolulu Volcanic Series. Old volcanoes are part of the Hawaiian culture, and this is your chance to visit one site and see the entire city and the vast ocean, taking in the views. It is a magnificent sight to see for sure. It’s going to be a blessing to go on this adventure at Diamond Head.
